Bryce’s scholarship is capital achievement

A MELTON student will pack his bags for Canberra next year, after being awarded a $100,000 scholarship to the Australian National University.

Melton Catholic Regional College year 12 student Bryce Robinson was one of 657 students who applied for Graham and Louise Tuckwell Foundation scholarships, which were established this year.

Twenty-five students across Australia were successful.

Bryce, the college’s school captain, plans to study for a bachelor of law and science over five years.

“At the beginning of the application process I wasn’t sure if I’d have a chance, because so many people applied,” he said.

‘‘As it went on, it became something I really wanted and something I could get.

“I’m really excited about moving to Canberra – naturally I’ll miss everyone but it will be a fantastic experience and I’ll be forced to be independent.”

The hard work is far from over –  the 17-year-old needs an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank score of 95 to secure his place.

“I just have to keep up the work ethic I’ve had for the last 13 years,’’ he said.

‘‘I know it won’t be handed to me.”

College pathways co-ordinator Pauline Jakobovic said Bryce was a deserving student.

Scholarship winners will receive $20,000 a year for the length of a single or double undergraduate degree as well as ongoing mentoring.
