A DECISION to drop the speed limit on the Melton Highway by 20km/h was made by VicRoads to help reduce road trauma.
As reported by the Weekly, the limit was dropped from 90 to 70km/h between Melton and Hillside in April as part of a $5.5 million ‘‘run-off-road’’ program between the Western Highway and Sunshine Avenue.
Melton police said last week many motorists were being caught speeding, tailgating and illegally overtaking on the highway.
VicRoads regional director of metro north west, Patricia Liew, said 45 run-off-road casualty crashes were recorded on the section of highway in the five years to last December.
