Ceberano says west’s got talent

MUSICIAN Phil Ceberano will be looking for a diamond in the rough at a talent competition in Caroline Springs next month.

Ceberano will join Melton deputy mayor Bob Turner, band manager Keith Ridgeway and publicist Angela Ceberano as judges for ‘‘Best of the West’’.

Singers, dancers and other performers in Melbourne’s west are being urged to display their talents and be in the running to win a career kick-starter package including ongoing mentoring and a professional photo shoot.

Ceberano, who regularly plays with his sister Kate, is regarded as one of Australia’s top guitarists. He says he’s looking forward to seeing what the west has to offer.

“I’m very interested in finding talent and when you watch these sorts of shows on television you find out where talent comes from,” he says. “They’re not just inner-city people – a lot of talent comes from the west.

“I really encourage people to have a go. I think that’s one of the things I love about the Australian culture – the willingness to have a go and not be spectators. We love to have a crack.”

Ceberano wants to see people who can entertain a crowd.

“Entertainment is the main element,” he says. “That’s the great thing about this competition – it’s not just about musicians, we’re inviting any kind of performing arts talent or skills.”

Auditions will be held at West Waters Hotel on August 17, with the grand final on September 21. Registrations close August 5.
