RDFL: Barry Hall to challenge striking charge

UPDATE: Barry Hall will not challenge a one-week set penalty for striking at the RDFL tribunal tonight.

Broadford Football Club accepted the set penalty today meaning Hall is ineligible for the Kangaroos’ game against Melton Centrals this weekend.

Hall went from hero to villain, kicking eight goals to lead Broadford’s charge but reported in the final quarter as the Redbacks came back to win by 10 points.

Hall was reported for striking Romsey’s Blake Henderson in the final quarter and was offered a one-week set penalty.

League paperwork indicates Broadford did not accept the set penalty on Friday night and that it would challenge the decision, meaning a tribunal date for Hall tonight.

Broadford club president Andrew Donovan said on the weekend that decisions had not been finalised with regards to Hall’s charge.

League media manager Shaun Kelly said there would be no special circumstances for Hall.

“It will be as per any other player that appears in the RDFL, subject to the same rules and regulations,” he said.

Romsey trailed by 24 points at half-time before rallying for a 14.12 (96) to 13.8 (86) win.

Diggers Rest flexed its muscle as a bag of 15 Brent Tuckey goals led a rout of Rupertswood.

Tuckey has kicked 41 goals in his past four games, but he was joined by four other multiple goal-kickers in putting Rupo to the sword.

Brad Sluggett and Cole Laurie were other stand-outs for Burras, while Rupo’s best were David Morrice and Mitchell Gaunt.

Melton Centrals 12.5 (77) d Macedon 7.5 (47)

The Blues’ revival continued as they took fifth place at Macedon’s expense by holding the Cats goalless in the final term.

The Cats were within 13 points at the last change, but Centrals then kicked 3.0 to a solitary point to secure fifth (6-5) from Macedon (5-5) while Rupertswood (4-6) is best of the rest.

Adam Fenton led the Centrals’ charge with six goals while Paul McNamara and Nathan Richardson were other good players. Alistair Meldrum kicked five goals for Macedon while Jack Kernan, Chad Walker and Matthew Goodwin did well.

Kilmore 11.7 (73) lt Rockbank 17.12 (114)

Kilmore got the jump on Rockbank and was within a point at half-time before the Rams settled matters with 11 third-quarter goals to three.

Jamie Zerafa (five), Matthew Krul (four) and Anthony Long (four) were the main avenues to goal for Rockbank while Bryce Hall and Russell Rich were outstanding.

Round 12, Saturday 2pm: Diggers Rest v Romsey, Broadford v Melton Centrals, Rockbank v Macedon, Lancefield v Wallan, Rupertswood v Woodend-Hesket, Kilmore bye.

Sunday, 2pm: Sunbury Kangaroos v Riddell.
