MELTON’S $5.25 million library and learning hub was officially opened on Saturday.
The first of its kind in Melbourne’s west, the building on McKenzie Street is four times bigger than the old library and has been given a five-star rating by the Green Building Council of Australia.
The building was planned with a focus on energy efficiency and designed to minimise heating, cooling and lighting costs.
It provides maternal and child health services, free internet facilities, a cafe, meeting rooms including an 80-seat auditorium and 68,000 book, DVD and video game titles.
Other features include a recording studio, children’s area, youth zone and games area.
