YOUNGSTERS like Renee, Zachary and Geeth (pictured) may have a greater say in decisions affecting their future thanks to the release of a guide designed to help organisations consult with children.

Last Thursday, Kurunjang Primary School pupils helped launch Engaging Children in Decision Making, the result of a project involving Melton, Brimbank, Ballarat, Wyndham and Maribyrnong councils and the Department of Education.

The guide highlights examples of effective consultation methods including face-to-face discussions, social media, surveys, art and posters.

Melton mayor Kathy Majdlik said the booklet would help give children a voice.

‘‘It’s important to recognise children as active citizens in the community and not just think of them as future adults.’’
