Melton station car park finally a sealed deal

A GRAVEL car park will be sealed as part of a long-awaited upgrade at Melton railway station.

Melton Residents Association president Peter Rowan was told last week that works would soon begin to improve and extend the existing parking area.

Public Transport Victoria (PTV)  confirmed works would include 400 asphalted spaces, new lighting and improved disabled access.

Mr Rowan said the gravel car park caused a lot of problems for commuters.

“The current car park in the winter becomes a muddy bog that people have to walk through after parking their cars,’’ he said. ‘‘In the summer months it becomes a dust bowl.”

“This has taken two years of hard work from representatives of the Melton Residents Association.”

Mr Rowan said the addition of five protective services officers at Melton earlier this month was also welcomed by the association.

“We’re very glad to receive the news that we have the PSOs now established at the station because Melton has had a problem with violence and theft from cars.”

A PTV spokesman said the existing parking area would be available during construction.

The new car parking spaces are expected to be ready in August.
