MOORABOOL residents have the worst work-life balance in the state, worrying health data for local women shows.
Health Department data last week revealed below-average scores for Moorabool women in a range of health indicators such as obesity, cancer, smoking, fruit and vegetable consumption and physical activity. Rates of breastfeeding and childhood immunisation were also low.
With almost 19 per cent of residents commuting more than two hours a day (eighth worst in the state) and a high percentage sleeping less than seven hours every night, only 37.6 per cent of Moorabool’s population had an “adequate work-life balance” — the lowest result of all local government areas.
Women’s Health Grampians statistics also reveal Moorabool women are more likely to work part-time and earn less than $400 a week. A woman living in Moorabool is also more likely to have poorer health with higher rates of cancer, diabetes, depression and anxiety.
While Moorabool women (84.3) have a better life expectancy than men (79.3), the study revealed almost half were overweight or obese (13th-worst in the state) and 46.8 per cent didn’t eat enough fruit and vegetables; 59 per cent per cent of Moorabool men were overweight.
