Letters to the editor, Melton and Moorabool

Re: New Melton school to cater for record growth (Weekly, May 7):

The debt for infrastructure keeps building up to create increasing state deficits because of our high rates of population growth. The government’s worship of “economic growth” relies on population growth and the housing industry, but the economic benefits of population growth never are able to keep abreast with costing demands. Construction of housing doesn’t provide long-term jobs; neither does it increase our exports and manufacturing outputs.

Re: Is Ballan missing a beat? (Weekly, May 7):

Reducing police funding and numbers when crime will obviously increase due to population growth is not planning. Developers pay hefty donations and stamp duty is a major revenue earner, but it doesn’t cover all the infrastructure required. It means more people living in deprivation.

Re: This win’s for a close mate (Weekly, May 7):

This has been a very emotional time for my family . . . we are so proud of Nash. One thing about speedway drivers, they all stick together. Thank you.

Re: Sisters fly the flag for rare disability (Weekly, May 7):

Well done, girls. It’s very difficult when you have a condition you can’t seem to get people to understand. My son has EDS type 3.

Fantastic guys! I am proud to fight this condition alongside you!
