Five protective services officers started patrolling Melton railway station this week. The PSOs will work seven days until the last train, with a minimum of two officers a shift.

Man faces burglary charges

A Melton West man has been charged over six burglaries committed in the past two months. Police said the burglaries took place at schools, childcare centres and community service groups. The 29-year-old has been remanded to appear in court at a later date.

Woman mugged

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw two men assaulting a woman outside a Melton South supermarket last week. Police said the offenders, described as being of dark complexion, had demanded money from the woman and assaulted her when she said she hadn’t any. The woman suffered cuts to her face.

Hospital helpers

Thanks to tireless fund-raising by the Ballan District Health and Care auxiliary, the hospital and nursing home has got an infusion pump and tub chair, worth in total more than $7000. Marlene Burvill, Bev Bennett, Tracey Sheriff, Jacki Wetzler and Wendy Grayland (pictured) were proud to deliver the goods. The Ballan Hospital ball is on May 25 at Ballan Mechanics Hall.
