Inaccurate kicking spared Rockbank a triple-figure defeat to Diggers Rest as the Burras won 15.21 (111) to 4.4 (28) against the Rams on Saturday. Diggers Rest built a 23-point lead at half-time and closed the door on any potential comeback with a seven-goal-to-one third term. Stuart Clarke booted four goals while Brett Caton was the Burras’ best. Tom Mainey was best in the defeat for Rockbank. Around the grounds, Sunbury Kangaroos beat Woodend Hesket 13.8 (86) to 7.6 (48), Lancefield beat Kilmore 18.7 (115) to 8.8 (56), Rupertswood beat Wallan 14.14 (98) to 7.10 (52) and Riddell beat Macedon 13.14 (92) to 6.4 (40).
Interleague
A host of Melton-region players were called into the initial squad of more than 60 for Riddell District Football League’s battle with Kyabram District this month. Centrals’ Nathan Richardson, Adam Fenton, Kane Bullen and Adam Hunter made the squad, while Rockbank has quartet Tom Mainey, Russell Rich, Shaun Wilson and Matthew Krul in the mix. Digger Rest has call-ups for Brent Tuckey, Stuart Clarke, Adam Richardson, John Ryan, Shaun Sims, Craig Marshall, Dylan Hannan and Brandon Kilty. Melton Thoroughbreds moved a step closer to squaring its win-loss ledger by beating Casey on Saturday by six points. The Breds improved to three-and-four with the 76-70 win. Five players were in double-figure points, with Maverick Clissold’s 13 points and nine rebounds the highest return. Melton heads to Shepparton to take on the Gators on Saturday night.
TAC Cup
Western Jets lost to Gippsland Power by 10 points at Morwell on Sunday. The Jets came from 17 down at half-time to lead at the last change, but lost 16.13 (109) to 18.11 (119). The defeat leaves the Jets sixth on the ladder with two wins, three losses and a draw. Mitch Norton kicked five goals and James Sicily three, while better players were Norton, Liam Duggan, Jason Robinson, Daniel O’Leary, Harley Walshe and Jayden Laverde.
