Ballan’s puppy love

WITH 14 golden retriever pups in her care, Ballan’s “puppy midwife” Jeannie Bongers could use a hand ushering in the next generation of seeing-eye dogs.

Mrs Bongers, whose son is visually impaired, is calling for potential puppy carers in Melton to play a vital part in fostering this invaluable resource.

With all costs covered by Seeing Eye Dogs Australia, volunteers can care for a puppy in their home from eight weeks of age until they are one year old.

Carers must be located within 40 kilometres of SEDA’s Kensington training centre.

“It’s a way of giving back to the community. You know in your heart what each dog is going to do for others. They will be the eyes for others,” Mrs Bongers said.
