Rowsley fuel storage ‘no health risk’

A MOORABOOL councillor has demanded that people clean up their attitude towards the environment.

Cr Tonia Dudzik said she was appalled to find sections of a roadside in Long Forest in a shocking state when she pitched in for last month’s Clean Up Australia Day.

“People need to show respect for the beautiful shire we live in and and stop littering and dumping rubbish,” she said. “It’s a disgrace what we picked up — cigarettes butts, beer bottles and fast-food wrappers.”

Cr Dudzik also assured Moorabool residents that the storage of an aluminium byproduct at a Rowsley site does not pose a health threat.

A Moorabool Environmental Group member told the Weekly that several residents had complained about dust coming from trucks transporting Hi Cal 40 carbon fuel — which must be kept wet to avoid contamination — to Rowsley.

Councillors Dudzik and Allan Comrie last week said they were satisfied after attending a community meeting hosted by Regain, the company which produces the product.

“The product was completely dust-free,” said Cr Dudzik, who inspected the site. “There is no chance it would leave that property. There’s no way known it’s a health risk.”
