Siren to sound on public alert

The CFA has delayed the testing of a temporary community alert siren in Moorabool until this month. Testing will be held on April 17 in Dales Creek, Barrys Reef, Simmons Reef and Golden Point, between 10am and 3pm, to assess suitability for a permanent alert siren. The testing was scheduled for last Wednesday but was called off due to a total fire ban.

Meet mayor, councillors

Melton residents can meet the mayor and councillors at a sausage sizzle in Taylors Hill on Sunday. The free event includes children’s entertainment. Residents can also leave comments on a community discussion board. It’s at Morton Homestead from 12-2pm. Bookings: melton.vic.gov.au

Share ideas on disability plan

Residents can have their say on Melton Council’s 2013-17 disability action plan. Consultation sessions are at Melton Community Hall on April 17 from 9.30-10.30am, and Caroline Springs Library on April 18 from 7.30-8.30pm. More details: 9747 7200

King joins PM’s ministry

Ballarat Labor MP Catherine King has been promoted to the federal government’s cabinet. Ms King was last week appointed as Minister for Regional Services, Local Communities, Territories and Road Safety.

Youth invited to get skates on

National Youth Week events in Moorabool will include BMX, skate and scooter competitions at Rotary Park, Bacchus Marsh, on Sunday and at Ballan Recreation Reserve on April 14. Registrations open at 11am for scooters, 12.30pm for skate and 2pm for BMX competitions. A friendly mixed netball match will be played at Bacchus Marsh Leisure Centre on April 10 from 1pm.
