Tick it as an investment

Behind a picket fence — which adds considerably to the ‘cute’ factor — this is a house tailor-made for a first home buyer, investor or downsizer.

It was built when the average Joe Blow didn’t expect a home to be mega-sized, so this one is best described as bijou, even though it has the extra space of a sunroom.

Lovely proteas abound in the front yard, along with other attractive natives which require minimal upkeep.

Out back, there’s a good-sized patch of lawn, neat garden beds, fruit trees and a raised vegie patch. But the prettiest part is found while strolling under one of the two pergolas that shades a dense blend of tropical greenery.

The entry hall, carpeted in muted green, has an archway introducing the lounge room where a wood heater, ceiling fan and sponged feature wall are highlights.

Across the hall is the main bedroom with built-in wardrobes.

Another archway ushers in the kitchen and adjoining meals area. Spick and span, the kitchen has a breakfast bar topped with soft-green laminate, a pantry cupboard, dishwasher, gas cooktop and underbench oven.

Glass sliding doors from the meals area open to a carpeted, built-on sunroom with exposed brick walls and windows dressed in vertical blinds.

Two bedrooms with wardrobes, a bathroom with heat lamp, a separate toilet and laundry with storage closet are down a back hall.

The sunroom links with the first of the pergolas (clad in bougainvillea), while a lattice gate opens to the backyard where there are two garden sheds.

If location is important (and when is it not?), this property gets a tick: it’s a casual stroll from the main street but sufficiently tucked away to feel hubbub-free.
