Lots more parking spaces

Access to Bacchus Marsh and Melton Regional Hospital has been improved with the addition of 25 new parking spaces. Moorabool mayor Pat Toohey (pictured) says the $333,271 project includes improvements to drainage on Clarinda Street. Djerriwarrh Health Services is undertaking further landscaping work outside the hospital.

Remand centre blitz

Contraband was seized as part of a police operation at the Metropolitan Remand Centre in Ravenhall. All drivers visiting the centre last week were checked for alcohol and drugs. Licence and registration checks were also conducted. Of 47 vehicles checked, two were found to be unregistered and another was being driven by an unlicensed driver. Another driver had 180 outstanding sheriff’s warrants and owed more than $50,000. A man, 31, was arrested after being caught with amphetamines and will be charged on summons. Similar operations are planned this year.
