MELTON’S only all-female football team is on the hunt for new talent, with the 2013 season about to begin.
Melton Centrals Women’s Football Club has 25 members on its books – enough to make up a side, but not enough if one player can’t make a match.
Team manager Sarah Monaghan says women of all ages can join the side, which competes in the north-west division of the Victorian Women’s Football League. Members are aged from 16-50.
“I started playing again last year, now I’m already the team manger and I love it,” Monaghan says.
“It’s a great environment and the team is so welcoming. You don’t have to have played recently, I hadn’t played for 10 years.
“The girls are more than willing to teach people skills. The majority of the girls are there to have a good time and it’s a good way to stay fit during winter.”
Monaghan says women from surrounding towns and suburbs, including Bacchus Marsh, St Albans and Taylors Lakes, are welcome to join. “We’d love to get a full side so we can get 25 to a game each week, that way we’ve got people on the bench. We’re in contention for the flag this year which is really exciting, we just want to make our team that much better.”
The season starts on April 14, when Centrals will play against Pascoe Vale Panthers.
