Vandals target CFA Fiskville training site

BALLAN police are investigating graffiti damage at the Fiskville CFA training centre.

The words ‘toxic dump’ and ‘shut down’ were found Monday morning scrawled on a brick wall behind a recruit accommodation block.

CFA chief officer Euan Ferguson described the vandalism as “cowardly”.

“It is appalling that volunteers, staff, trainees and visitors have been subjected to such cowardly intimidation, just metres from the living quarters of recruit firefighters.”

The CFA is seeking permits to upgrade water supply and treatment systems at Fiskville. Upgrades will minimise off-site flows from Lake Fiskville and prepare for the installation of new treatment facilities and the remediation of dams onsite.

As reported by the Weekly, a small area of groundwater near a dam contained now banned substances used in fire training. Two small areas with minor soil contamination were found after intense examination of the site.
