Gisborne closed out a six-wicket victory against St Anthonys in B grade, though St Anthonys sealed the minor premiership by avoiding outright defeat. It leads with 72 points to Gisborne’s 60 with one round to play. The Dragons made 195 off 53.5 overs in reply to St Anthonys’ 108. In C grade, Diggers Rest Bulla Village has all but sealed top spot with a round to play after beating Rupertswood by eight wickets, 2-178 to 130. East Sunbury is nine points behind the Burras in second on the table after a three-wicket win against Bacchus Marsh. Athletics

Melton South’s Rhys Parkinson won the 70m dash but had to settle for third place in the 120m Keilor Gift on Saturday. NSW’s Richard Hankin won the gift off a 6m handicap in 12.67 seconds, ahead of former winner Craig Mair and Parkinson third. Melton’s Mick Allen put his nervous 90s behind him by hitting 142 against Brighton as the Lions compiled 8-295 in South-West First XI. Allen, out for 96 and 99 in his two previous innings, shared a 103-run partnership with Shane Harwood (35) for the fourth wicket, before being out with the score on 260. Brighton will chase the runs this weekend.

BCA

Mt Clear’s Matt Goonan hit 110 not-out to hold his team’s run chase together in a four-wicket First Grade win against Darley. The loss knocked Darley down to fourth on the table, its 40 points seven clear of fifth-placed Brown Hill (43).

WDCA

Melton Centrals kept its finals hopes alive in B1 Turf with a 65-run win against Bellbridge. Melton South (fifth, 37 points) trails Williamstown Congs (fourth, 39 points) and St Johns (third, 41 points) with one round to play.

VWCA

Melton’s batters could not set Brighton a challenging target on Sunday as the visitors to MacPherson Park won by 10 wickets. The loss leaves Melton sixth on the 11-team table.
