FORMER Mowbray College student Ebony Yin has turned potential disaster into achieving her dream of a career in nutrition.
Only 12 weeks before the school year finished, the Hoppers Crossing resident was a casualty of the Mowbray closure.
The independent school, which had two campuses in Caroline Springs and one in Melton, was closed to students last June when it collapsed under more than $18 million debt.
Ms Yin, 18, commuted four hours a day to Ivanhoe Grammar’s Plenty campus while she studied six International Baccalaureate subjects.
She achieved a score of 35, the equivalent to the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank of 93.35.
“When my classmates and I got the news that Mowbray would be closing, it was an extremely stressful time that affected our studies, “she said.
“I want a career in dietetics. because I’m interested in nutrition, its effect on the body and how it can prevent and treat diseases as an alternative medicine.”
Ivanhoe Grammar deputy principal Gerard Foley said despite the difficulties for six former Mowbray students, “their smooth transition into a school life at Ivanhoe Grammar was a credit to the students and their families.”
