RESIDENTS have welcomed the announcement of a $150 million upgrade for Melton’s Woodgrove shopping centre.
Cambridge Coburns Watts Resident Association secretary Michael Matilewski said the development, which will double the centre’s size, was a boon for local shoppers.
“It’s great news for Melton with its growing population,” he said, adding the development would encourage more people to do their shopping closer to home.
Mr Matilewski said until now residents sometimes had had to travel outside Melton for services not available at Woodgrove.
Centre manager QIC Global Real Estate said the expansion would include Big W, Woolworths and more than 80 new retailers. A new 550-seat food court and entertainment area is part of the development. Parking will be increased to about 2400 spaces.
Melton mayor Kathy Majdlik said the development would benefit businesses and shoppers. “This is fantastic as the expansion has been highly anticipated by local residents.” Construction is due to begin late next year.
