Whittlesea Pacers season over

Things didn’t go to plan for Whittlesea Pacers in their elimination final against Geelong Supercats in Big  V women’s division 1.

Travelling up the highway to take on the experienced Supercats side, the Pacers were on the back foot all night.

The Pacers led by four points early on, but from then on it were all the Supercats, who won 90-62.

Pacers’ assistant coach Damon Lowery said the Supercats had a way of bringing out their best against them.

“Things went pear shaped rather quickly,” he said.

“Geelong has been good all year, especially against us and they know how to close the deal.

“They executed what they had to and shot really well.”

The Pacers were down by 10 points at the main break and Lowery said if they were any chance they needed a good third quarter.

Instead they lost the quarter 24-8.

“If we made a run in the third quarter we might have been a chance, but were blown out of the water.

“You never want to be blown out of the water.”

Despite the disappointing end to the season, Lowery said they would still take a lot of positives out of the year.

“We made finals,” he said. “Last year the team didn’t.

“We finished fifth and we’ll see if we can get even further next year.

“We’ve got younger players stepping up. May [Saaga] had a good game in the final, while LT [Poa] played well all season. She’s our youngest player and she led the scoring.

“Jade Wise played some solid games.

“Everyone did something really good at some point.”
