Wallabies stars to visit Melton

Former Australian Rugby Union stars Matt Cockbain and Laurie Weeks will be in Melton on Monday.

The two will visit Melton as part of the #GoldBlooded tour to promote 100 days until the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

The tour started in Darwin on June 11 and will travel the country over the next couple of months.

Rugby stars will be on board for the tour, helping run clinics for the local communities and to try and build excitement ahead of the world cup.

Cockbain, who played 63 games for the Wallabies, and Weekes, who played two tests for the Wallabies, will be at the Melton stop.

Cockbain, who was part of the 1999 winning Wallabies World Cup side said it was good to build up some excitement about the sport.

He said it was good to give back to the community.

Classic Wallabies general manager Justin Harrison said they wanted to engage with supporter base of Australian rugby.

‘’We want to pass the passion and fantastic tapestry of the rugby family on to Australians – in particular those who have never experienced rugby or are wanting to be a part of something special.
‘’We’ve witnessed the ripple effect in communities from having ex-World Cup Wallabies visit, as parents see those players interacting with their boys and girls and realise there is a golden thread running through us all.”

The clinic at Melton will be held at the Melton Rugby Union on Monday between 11am and 1pm. Anyone is welcome to attend.
