Tigers rule in Falcons demolition derby

Werribee Districts strolled to a 117-point win over Wyndhamvale Falcons in the WRFL division 1 local derby at Wyndhamvale South Oval on Saturday.

It was perhaps the most disappointing showing by the Falcons this season, with just two goals for the game.

The Tigers posted six goals to nil in the first quarter, and led by 52 points at half-time.

There was no going back with such a big lead on the scoreboard.

Small forward Andrew Panayi left his finger prints all over the victory with nine goals.

Ruckman Bol Kolang continued his purple patch of form.

And the Tigers moved a game and percentage clear in third.

In division 2, Glen Orden moved back into the top four after its 90-point mauling of Albanvale at Robert Bruce Reserve.

Ben Stornebrink kicked six goals for the Hawks in the best-on-ground display.

In division 3, Wyndham Suns dominated after quarter time to beat Sanctuary Lakes by 32 points at Goddard Street Reserve.

Rhys Kirk was the focal point for the Suns, scoring seven goals in a dominant display.

In VAFA division 4, Point Cook’s hold on second spot loosened slightly after its second consecutive loss.

The Bulldogs were on the wrong end of a 24-point margin against Eley Park Sharks at Whitehorse Reserve.

Now, it’s only percentage that separates the Bulldogs from the third-placed Mount Lilydale.

Runaway ladder leader Westbourne Grammarians cruised to a 124-point win over Box Hill North at the Westbourne School Ground. Dale Collins and Nick Schiano kicked seven goals apiece for the Warriors.

In GDFL Smiths Holden Cup, Werribee Centrals were out-classed by finals contenders Thomson in a 37-point loss at Galvin Park.

The Centurions finals chances look to have been dashed after the side slipped three games and percentages outside the top five.

In VWFL north west division, Manor Lakes pummelled Fitzroy by 126 points.

Suzanne Letzing booted five goals for the winners.
