Melton Thoroughbreds finally broke through for their first win of the Big V men’s division 2 season on Saturday night.

After a tough start to the season, there was some joy for the Thoroughbreds against the Surf Coast at Cobblebank Stadium.

The Thoroughbreds started the game well and it set the tone for the rest of the game.

They led by eight points at quarter time and extended it to nine at half time.

The third quarter is known as the premiership quarter, and it was just that with the Thoroughbreds putting the game to bed with a 20-8 quarter.

They would go on to win, 85-65.

Maluk Adut top scored with 17 points as five players scored double figures.

The side didn’t have long to celebrate as they were back on the court on Sunday against Maccabi Warriors.

The Warriors started the better of the two teams, leading by six points at quarter time.

The margin was then seven at half time and 14 at the last break.

The Thoroughbreds didn’t give in and while they won the last quarter 20-17, they still fell short losing 86-75.

Adut was again the stand out on the score sheet, with 25 points.

The Thoroughbreds remain on the bottom of the ladder, but now only sit one game behind the Surf Coast.

The Thoroughbreds youth league men’s division 2 side had two good wins on the weekend.

On Saturday night they beat Western Port, 86-73.

Six players scored double figures as they shared the points around.

They backed it up on Sunday with a 97-89 win against Maccabi.
