A century to St Anthonys’ Ryan Dobbie put the Saints in a good position against Sunbury United in their Gisborne and District Cricket Association B-grade match.
After struggling with the bat the past couple of weeks, St Anthonys was after a change of fortune against the strong United line-up.
After a few shifts to the previous week’s side, the Saints looked better with the bat early, cruising at 3-154. But from that point, the wickets fell until they were bowled out for 244.
Dobbie, who missed the previous match, made 106, while Wes Greig, another inclusion this week, made 43 at the top of the order.
James Hughes was the best of the bowlers for United, taking 4-44.
Meanwhile, Bacchus Marsh is in control of its B-grade match against East Sunbury, thanks to some lower order batting heroics.
Aaron Peterson (59) started well at the top of the order, as several batsmen got starts. Despite this, the Bulls were in trouble at 7-126.
Numbers eight and nine, Chris Dugdale-Porter and Jack Powell, produced an 89 eighth-wicket partnership to push the score past 200.
But a run-out finished the Bulls’ innings shortly afterwards, with the side all out for 262.
Powell finished unbeaten on 58.
Jaxon Mobilio was the best of the bowlers for the Thunder, taking 5-90.
As for Lancefield, it set Ashfield 7-247 in their match.
The Tigers looked in control for most of its innings, with seven of the nine batsmen that made it to the crease passing double figures.
lan Sinclair top-scored for the Tigers with 67 not out, while Ryan Millar chipped in with 49, before being run out.
Ashfield skipper Ryan Pretty toiled hard, taking 4-90 off 30 overs.
Macedon made 211 against ladder leaders Wallan. Every one of Macedon’s top order made contributions as they looked to push the score past 200.
But the tail didn’t offer much resistance, which restricted Macedon’s total to 211.
Brendon Scott top-scored with 45 not out.
Matt Bell was the best of the bowlers for Wallan, taking 5-40.
The struggling Blackwood team looks set for another loss in the C-grade competition.
After getting into trouble with the bat against Woodend – and making just 116 – Blackwood needed quick wickets at the end of day one to hold onto any chance.
It wasn’t to be.
Woodend was 2-97 at stumps, needing just 20 runs on the second day for victory.
In other C-grade results, Kyneton and Romsey are both in control of their matches against Sunbury United and Sunbury.
Meanwhile, Riddell is 2-10, chasing Gisborne’s tally of 129.
