Down by the Melton Weir will be the place to be on Saturday as the season opener of the Wakeboard Victoria summer series gets underway.

After a couple of interrupted years due to COVID-19, excitement is growing as the racing gets underway in a normal capacity with big crowds expected to watch the action throughout the series.

Wakeboard Victoria president Wade Jeffreys said they were expecting a big weekend with support from the Melbourne Runabout and Speed Boat Club, which is based at Melton.

“We have over 40 competitors and expect to see a couple of hundred spectators viewing all the action,” he said.

“We are happy to see several interstate riders participating in this event, this is a credit to the way Wakeboard Victoria’s hard-working committee run events and the location at Melton Weir creates excellent viewing.”

The action will start with the juniors at 8am with the final racing set to end at 5pm.

The event is free for the public and there will be plenty of activities and music on dry ground for the spectators.

It’s one of two events that will be held at the Melton Weir this season. Round three will also be held in Melton.
