Romsey claims outright win

Romsey claimed the first outright win of the Gisborne and District Cricket Association McIntyre Cup season on Saturday.

Having already claimed first innings points against Diggers Rest Bulla on day one, Romsey maintained its hot form on day two.

The Burras resumed at 2-20 in their second innings, and finished their second innings at 9-162, a lead of 149.

Chris Burkett assured that Romsey would get the runs, making an unbeaten century.

Romsey finished 2-152 in its second innings, with Burkett making 101 not out.

The win, Romsey’s second in as many rounds, has moved the side from last to sixth and just over three points outside the top four.

Sunbury United was able to avoid an outright defeat against Bacchus Marsh. Like the Burras, United had conceded first innings points on day one.

The Bulls declared at their overnight score of 9-163, with a lead of 97.

United managed to make 203 in their second innings, leading by 106 runs.

The Bulls ran out of time, finishing their second innings 4-71.

The win keeps the Bulls on top of the ladder, as one of two undefeated teams.

Riddell is the other undefeated team after beating Gisborne.

Resuming at 5-61 needing 100 for victory, Bombers had no trouble getting the runs.

Skipper Mick Allen made 73 to ensure his side got over the line.

Sunbury keeps the pressure on the top four, with a strong win against Rupertswood.

Needing 115 for first innings points, the Roar made 165 with Brad Hunter making 54.

Rupertswood made 154 in its second innings, so set the Roar more than 200 for an outright win.

The Roar finished 0-42.

Woodend claimed the points in the other match, easily defeating Woodend.

Having made 9-307 on day one, Woodend restricted Lancefield to 194. Tigers playing coach Luke Barker made 91.

Woodend finished 1-32 in its second innings. Woodend enters the Christmas break in third.
