Burras fight to stay unbeaten

Diggers Rest is the only undefeated side after nine rounds of the Riddell District Football League season.

But although the Burras’ winning streak remains intact, it didn’t come without a fight, as Wallan got closer to them than any other side this season.

The Burras appeared to be on track for another big win when they led by 20 points at quarter-time.

And even though it was a more even second quarter, the Burras extended the led to 30 points.

The Magpies cut back the margin slightly after half-time but couldn’t get close enough and the Burras won 13.10 (88)-9.13 (67).

Five players each kicked two for the Burras, while Jamie Lobb and Matthew Krul were the best.

The Burras are now a game clear on top of the ladder, after Macedon lost to Riddell at the weekend. The Burras face Macedon this weekend.

At the other end of the scale, it was another tough weekend for Melton Centrals and Rockbank, who both suffered 100-point losses.

The Centrals were on the back foot early against Rupertswood, who had 11 scoring shots to two in the first quarter to open up a 44 point lead.

The Sharks eventually won 23.16 (154)-7.9 (51).

Meanwhile, Rockbank suffered a 29.15 (189)-3.4 (22) loss to Romsey.
