Rain and wet stump cricket

By Tara Murray

The weather gods were the winners in the Victorian Turf and Victorian Sub-District Cricket associations at the weekend.

With wet weather throughout the week and more predicted for Saturday, both competitions called off the weekend games on Friday afternoon.

Subbies games, including Melton’s against Ormond, will revert to one-day games this weekend.

Cancelled VTCA games were bad news for Melton South Royals and Melton Centrals in Russell Pollock Shield division 5. Both were in winning positions in matches against Gellibrand and Barkly Street Uniting, but had to settle for draws. There were similar outcomes for Caroline Springs against St Andrews in Charles Clark Shield division 4 and Sydenham-Hillside against Williamstown Congs.
