Olympic legend hits Melton Hockey

Melton Hockey Club had a special guest in attendance on Saturday.

Olympic champion Cathy Freeman was at the club for the men’s Metro 3 West match against Altona, and tossed the coin before the game.

She would have been pleased with what she saw from the Mustangs – they came away with a 4-3 win.

Rohan Armitage scored a hat trick for the Mustangs, with Mathew Murphy scoring the other goal.

Freeman’s visit was organised by Lend Lease, which is the major sponsor of Melton Hockey Club and Melton City Little Athletics club, both located at the Bridge Road Sports Precinct.

It was a mixed weekend for the rest of the Mustangs’ senior sides.

The Vic League 2 women’s side lost 6-1 to Echo on Saturday afternoon. The men’s Vic League 3 side lost 5-3 to Collegians-X on Sunday, while the men’s G pennant side defeated Collegians-X, 4-3.
