Not much has gone right for Melton Centrals this Riddell District Netball League season.
After losing a number of key players in the off-season, the Centrals were decimated by injuries in early rounds, and the usually dominant outfit found itself in unfamiliar territory towards the bottom of the ladder.
At the time, head coach Randy Pereira was hopeful his side would be able to show enough fight to contend for a finals spot in the league’s top six.
However, in recent weeks the Centrals proved just how hard it is to keep a good club down.
Talk of a top-six finish has made way for plans for a premiership assault, after Melton won four of its past five matches.
Pereira now has his sights locked on the top three.
“I think we are still a shot to finish that high, if we can hang in there,” he said. “It is a matter of having everyone available each week.”
The constant changing of line-ups highlights the Centrals’ versatility.
Known as one of the best wing attacks in the league, Tran Truong has stepped into a shooting role in recent weeks, and has more than held her own.
Her midcourt position has been taken by Sara Tangaroa. The Centrals are hopeful shooter Monika Dimovski will be back for finals so the starting seven can return to their normal rotation.
