Melton Thoroughbreds’ lucky run is over

Melton Thoroughbreds’ run of good form was brought to a halt by Altona Gators on Sunday in Big V men’s division 2.

The Thoroughbreds got off to a slow start against the Gators and found themselves down by 11 points at quarter-time.

They got back into the game and by the last change had levelled the scores.

The Thoroughbreds led by one point with just under four minutes to go, before the Gators scored nine of the last 12 points to win 84-79.

Dexter Graham top-scored with 20 points and all five starters and six players scored double figures.

The Thoroughbreds’ record now sits at 6-6 and they’re sixth on the ladder.

The women’s side had a better weekend, defeating Sherbrooke Suns.

The Thoroughbreds won three of the four quarters and were able to overcome a poor second quarter in the 90-81 win.

The Thoroughbreds had an even spread of scorers, with five players reaching double figures.

Jenna Conroy led the way with 24 points, while Emily Attard scored 18 points off the bench and Molly Young had a double-double.

The win brings the Thoroughbreds back into the top four with five wins and five losses.

In youth league men’s two, the Thoroughbreds suffered a rare loss against Whittlesea Pacers. The 95-87 result means the Thoroughbreds are a game behind ladder leaders Craigieburn Eagles.
