Melton Thoroughbreds continues on

Melton Thoroughbreds cemented their spot among the top teams with a hard-fought win against Melbourne University Black Angels in Big V women’s division 2.

The Thoroughbreds took an early lead in the first quarter, before the Black Angels turned the tables in the second quarter, to lead by six points at half-time.

The Thoroughbreds ate into the lead in the third quarter, before a 20-10 final term sealed the 69-61 win.

There were no standouts on the scoring end for the Thoroughbreds, with Jenna Conroy top scoring with 12 points.

The Thoroughbreds sit third after four rounds with a 3-1 record, one of five teams with a similar win-loss count.

It was a tough weekend for the men’s side, which was thumped by Craigieburn Eagles on Saturday night.

Just two points separated the sides after an even first half, before the Eagles upped the anti in the second half.

They more than doubled the Thoroughbreds score in both the third and fourth quarters, going on to win 109-70.

Paul Nikoloff-King top scored with 12 points.

The side sits sixth, with a 3-2 record.

It was a better night for the Thoroughbreds youth league men’s division 2 side, which had a 92-70 win against the Wallan Panthers.

Centre Max Beaumont and Jake Cameron top scored for the Thoroughbreds with 18 points apiece.
