Melton South player and coach suspended

A Melton South coach and player involved in an incident during an under-18.5 game against Ballarat on June 30 have both been suspended following a Ballarat Football League investigation.

The player and coach were involved in an on-field altercation after the player was red-carded.

The coach, who was sacked immediately by Melton South, last week received a four-match suspension from the league tribunal as a result of the investigation. He also received a four match ban, suspended until the end of next year.

BFL operations manager Shane Anwyl said the suspension would come into effect if the coach took on any future coaching roles.

He said the league endorsed Melton South’s decision to sack the coach immediately.

The player received a two-match ban, effective immediately, and a two-week ban suspended until the end of 2019.

He was earlier suspended  by the league tribunal for two weeks for the incident which led to the red card.

The league has also ordered Melton South to hold training sessions at the club to outline acceptable behaviour for players and officials.

Anwyl said that Melton South had co-operated throughout the investigation.
