Melton got its second win of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association east-west season on Saturday.

After a poor performance the previous round, the Lions bounced back with a better performance to beat Mt Waverley.

Winning the toss, the Lions got off to a solid start before losing both openers in quick succession.

The middle order stood up as they all got starts and made a contribution.

The Lions finished 6-171 from their overs with Alex Kerr top scoring with 60, his highest score of the season.

The Lions managed to get an early wicket with the ball, before Mt Waverley steadied and was 1-15.

A wicket for the Lions quickly turned into four as Mt Waverley crumbled to 5-74. It never recovered as it was bowled out for 148, losing the last three wickets without scoring a run.

American Stephen Wiig took three wickets for the Lions, as three other bowlers took two wickets each.

The win moves the Lions up to 11th spot after eight rounds. In the final round before Christmas, it will be a battle of the Lions, as Melton faces Taylors Lakes.

Melton’s second XI also had a good win, beating Mt Waverley. Mt Waverley was bowled out for 99 in reply to the Lions 165.

The third Xi lost to Ivanhoe in a high scoring match, while the fourth XI had a big win against Ivanhoe.
