Melton put batting woes behind them

Melton finally found some form with the bat in Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association’s east-west competition.

Having struggled since Christmas, the Lions’ top and middle orders did the job on day one of their match against 11th-placed Yarraville.

The Lions, after losing their last three games, needed a win to keep their finals hopes alive, after slipping out of the top six.

Anthony Gale, Ben MacRae and skipper David Kirk were the main run-makers for the Lions on Saturday, in the team’s total of 6-240.

MacRae top-scored with 80, while Gale made 41, one short of his season’s best. Meanwhile, Kirk notched up his third half century of the season, making 57.

The score is the Lions’ highest total of the season so far.

The Lions’ second side posted an almost identical score to their firsts, making 241, also against Yarraville.

Nathan Dantonio top-scored with 56 and Aaron Clarke chipped in with 45.

The Lions women’s side had the weekend off, as the final of the Women’s premier seconds T20 grand final was held, with Melbourne defeating Carlton-Brunswick.

The one-day competition, in which the Lions sit second on the ladder, resumes on Sunday.

The Lions will face ladder-leaders Ringwood this weekend.
