Melton Phoenix has made it four wins in a row in FFV state league 5 west soccer.

After a rough start to the season, the Phoenix players have found their groove and made themselves into a team not to be taken lightly.

Facing the lower-placed Maribyrnong Greens, the Phoenix had a day out with a 5-1 win.

Not for the first time this season, Jason Hill opened the scoring for the Phoenix.

Hill made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute before Rob Bebenek added another goal two minutes later.

The Greens got the first goal of the second half to reduce the margin, before Hill got the three-goal advantage back with his third. Connor Krizmanic iced the win when he scored Phoenix’s fifth goal in the 78th minute.

The Phoenix are eighth, having won six games.

Westside Strikers had a slight hiccup in their quest for the state league 5 west title.

The ladder-leading Strikers had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Moonee Valley Knights.

The Strikers led 1-0 at half-time before the Knights levelled the scores in the second half.

Despite the result, the Strikers have a 10-point lead at the top of the ladder.

In state league 4 west, Spring Hills had a 5-1 win against Surf Coast, with all single goalscorers.

The Stallions are up to third on the ladder, having played one less game than second-placed Truganina Hornets.
