Clough then steadied the Cats with the bat, making an unbeaten 37 as his side progressed to 3-83 at stumps.
Ashfield produced its best batting performance of the season to be on top after day one against Riddell.
Needing to keep pressure on the top four sides, fifth-placed Ashfield produced an even batting performance.
A slow start involved the loss of three early wickets, before the side steadied.
Jas King, Mark Muir, Ethan Travers and Russell Phillips all made 40-plus runs to push the score to 8-325. Travers top-scored with 88 while Muir made 67 not out.
Heath Brown took four wickets for the Bombers.
Ashfield’s 325 wasn’t the biggest score of the round.
That was notched up by St Anthonys, which hit 4-427 against Gisborne. Paul Scott and Cam Clayton both made centuries for the Saints.
East Sunbury is well on its way to victory against Kyneton. The Thunder is 1-42 in reply to Kyneton’s 142.
Jack Dillion starred with the ball for the Thunder, taking 5-28.
The two teams tied back in round one when they last met.
In the other match, Eynesbury is 0-14 in reply to Bacchus Marsh’s 213. Luke Castle took 4-40 for the Eagles.
