Melton enters the Christmas break in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association north-west with a lot of work to do.

The Lions, who were hoping to build on a positive season last season, are without a win after seven rounds.

On Saturday, a late order batting collapse against Yarraville proved costly.

The Lions had a solid start before losing three quick wickets to go from 0-41 to 3-45 in a short space of time.

At 4-102, the Lions had a good launching pad to put on a big score but the wickets started to fall.

The Lions lost their last four wickets for just five to be bowled out for 153 with three overs remaining.

Conrad Farrugia top scored with 31 not out for the Lions.

The Eagles were on top throughout the run chase and as the Lions struggled to pick up wickets.

The Eagles made the runs with ease, finishing 4-155 in the 39th over.

It was all single wicket takers for the Lions.

The Lions will be back in action on January 6 as they take on Coburg in a one-dayer.

The Lions are one of two teams without a win after the first seven rounds. Strathmore sits above it with three points from a draw.

Spotswood sits atop the table at the break, ahead of Kew, Altona, Werribee, Hoppers Crossing and Brunswick which round out the top six.

Meanwhile the Lions women’s side had a bye in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association women’s competition.

The Lions sit in eighth spot after eight rounds with one win for the season.
