Carlton great Anthony Koutoufides has been named the Ballarat Football League’s new interleague coach.
Koutoufides steps into the role left vacant by former Redan player and Richmond premiership player Shaun Grigg, who had to pull out after signing as an assistant coach with Geelong.
While the AFL Victoria Community Championships competition no longer exists, the BFL has managed to secure a match against arch rival the Bendigo Football League.
The two leagues will face each other on May 2nd in Ballarat in both football and netball.
The two leagues last played each other in 2017 with the Ballarat League getting the win in the football that day.
League chairman Adrian Bettios was thrilled to get Koutoufides on board.
Koutoufides, who played 278 AFL games, brings plenty of experience, including being part of the 1995 AFL premiership.
“To have a champion of the game in Anthony Koutoufides willing to commit to leading the BFNL in this campaign speaks highly of the calibre of our competition and we are thrilled to have Anthony on board for this year,” Bettios said.
Koutoufides and the league will commence work ahead of the BFL season to put together a squad that will represent the league.
Further announcements in regards to assistant coaches will be made at a later date.
