Kilmore looking at Northern FL move

Kilmore Football Netball Club is considering a move to the Northern Football League.

On Thursday, the Riddell District Football Netball League issued a statement on its website saying Kilmore representatives had met with Northern Football League representatives earlier this week.

In the statement RDFNL general manager Rod Ward said, “On Tuesday 8th September the Riddell District FNL was advised by the Northern FL that they were meeting with representatives of the Kilmore FNC that evening to discuss an application by the Kilmore to join the Northern FL Division 3 competition in 2016.

“As a consequence of that meeting, the RDFNL understands that the NFL will recommend to their member clubs that they accept any application lodged by the Kilmore FNC to join their competition for 2016.

“It goes without saying that the Riddell District FNL regards the Kilmore FNC as an important and highly regarded member of our league and we were disappointed not be made aware of any such application by the Kilmore FNC.

“However, we respect the right of the Kilmore FNC to consider all options available to them for a long term and viable future, and we recognise the important role the Kilmore FNC plays in their community.”

Ward said AFL Goldfields representatives will meet with Kilmore on Monday September 21.

“We are committed to working closely with the Kilmore FNC during the process that will now be followed and we look forward to attending a meeting of the Kilmore FNC members that will be called to consider the merits of continuing their future in the Riddell District FNL or the Northern FNL.

“We obviously remain hopeful that their future will continue to lie within the Riddell District FNL.”

A Northern FL spokesman said the league had received an application from Kilmore FNC to join the league in 2016.

“Kilmore officials have met with the NFL Board to present their application and for the NFL to discuss their application in more detail,” he said.

“After careful consideration, the NFL Board has agreed to recommend to all NFL affiliates that Kilmore is accepted into the NFL for season 2016.

“NFL affiliates will have to vote in favour of Kilmore joining the NFL before the matter can progress any further.”
