For many clubs, hosting a junior tournament wouldn’t be anything out of the ordinary.
But for Melton Hockey Club hosting a junior tournament over the next two weekends is a massive milestone.
With the club at its new home at the Bridge Road Sports Precinct, the Mustangs now have facilities to host bigger scale events.
At their old home at Mowbray College, the club didn’t have running water, had only one toilet and the pitch had been deemed unsafe.
Mustangs Kellie McLaren said to be able to hold the competition was a massive boost for the club.
The competition is a round robin format with each age group to be played across three days. The under-12s and under-14s play this weekend and the under-16s and under-18s the following.
The first day of the second weekend will also coincide with the opening of the new facility and celebrate the club’s 40th anniversary.
