Diggers Rest Bulla is yet to put together the perfect game, despite sitting on top of the table in Gisborne and District Cricket Association’s McIntyre Cup.

In their first season back in the top grade, the Burras have been one of the two dominant sides in the competition, along with Riddell.

Burras coach Kevin Barker said his side was yet to put it all together.

“I still don’t think we have played the perfect game yet,” he said.

“It’s encouraging, as we still have more to give. Hopefully, we can have the full performance towards the end the of the season.”

Barker said the side wouldn’t be taking the foot off the pedal in the lead-up to finals, with every team still able to make the top four.

“We want to win every game for rest of the year,” he said. “We don’t want to just win a few games thinking we’ll just finish in the top two.

“There’s still a lot of cricket to be played; the job isn’t done yet.”

On Saturday, the Burras took the upper hand in the top-of-the-table clash with Riddell, bowling out Riddell for 115.

“It was a really good result,” Barker said.

“They were 3-86 just before tea and we were staring down the barrel of a big score.”

But then Riddell collapsed, losing 7-29.

Opener Brendan Alger top-scored with 49.

“Getting two wickets just before tea was a big key,” Barker said.

“We knew we had to make sure we were switched on after tea and, to our credit, we were great with the ball and in the field.”

Darren Quarrell took five wickets.

The Burras will resume on day two at 2-19, after losing Kane Shaw (7) and Rhys Berry (1).

In other matches, Woodend made 225 against Sunbury United. Daniel Eastley made 79, while James Hughes took 5-75.

Rain saw a delayed start to Sunbury and Bacchus Marsh’s match. Only 42 overs could be bowled and it was a hard slog for Bacchus Marsh.

Sent in, Bacchus Marsh finished the day at 3-32.

Sunbury captain Jason McGann took 2-18 off his 16 overs, while Heath Boffey bowled tightly, taking 0-4 off 13 overs.

In the other game, Romsey made 156 against Gisborne. The Dragons are 2-26 in reply.
