Edmonds takes on Melton South coaching role

New Melton South A-grade coach Anna Edmonds is looking to continue to bring through the young group of players at the Ballarat Netball League club.

Edmonds, who played for the Panthers’ A-grade side in 2014, was announced as the Panthers coach last week.

She takes over from Alan Watson who left the club after one season.

Edmonds said she had been looking to get back involved in netball after a stepping back from her involvement the last couple of years.

She said she was really looking forward to the challenge in a positive environment.

“I stepped away from netball as I went back to study,” she said.

“Netball took up a lot of my life and I didn’t have the time.

“With study coming to an end… Netball was something I missed. I wanted to get back into senior netball.

“My daughter played A-grade netball [at Melton South] this year and mentioned to me the previous coach was moving on and I said I might be interested.”

As we as playing at the Panthers, Edmonds has coached representative sides in both juniors and seniors in Parkville competitions and travelled overseas to coach the Pacific All Stars Team in an International School Girls Tournament.

Edmonds said one of her main focuses would be bringing through the young girls that are at the club.

She said it was an exciting time for the club that is coming off winning its first ever senior netball title. The Panthers E-grade side claimed that title this year.

“Some of the young girls who were at the club when I was playing, are now playing seniors,” she said.

“They are the next generation.”

Edmonds said she had several players interested in coming across and joining the club, but no one was guaranteed spots.

The Panthers are holding netball try outs for all grades over the next two Saturdays, between 10am-1pm.
