Diggers Rest is among the clubs fielding a team in the return of the Tennis Victoria Pennant state grade competition.
The pennant competition returned on the weekend for the 140th year with more than 400 teams and more than 3000 players taking to the court.
To celebrate the 140th year of the high level competition, Tennis Victoria has welcomed back state grade after a 15-year hiatus.
Diggers Rest is one of six teams competing in the women’s competition, along with Beaumaris Lawn, Grace Park Hawthorn, Harkaway, Kooyong Lawn and Royal South Yarra Lawn tennis clubs.
There will be eight teams in the men’s competition.
Tennis Victoria competitions coordinator Sean Spralja said Tennis Victoria was thrilled to welcome state grade back.
“There is a real sense of anticipation and excitement about the season ahead with many familiar names joining teams across the competition.”
The women’s competition starts on April 22, with Diggers Rest on the road against Kooyong Lawn.
The Diggers Rest team is led on court by former world number 147 Destanee Aiava.
Katherine Westbury, Belle Thompson, Sayaki McCulloch, Jemma Carbis, Keona Mendis, Medinah Fuatage, Zahna Assi, Aria Henare.
Ruel Lavaka is the side’s coach.
The men’s competition starts on May 6.
