Darley takes home the cup

Darley has retained the Thacker-Closter Cup.

Outside of premierships, the cup is the biggest round for local rivals Darley and Bacchus Marsh junior football and netball clubs.

The cup goes to the club which comes away with the most points accumulated throughout the day dependent on results.

The cup is named after Darley’s John Thacker and Bacchus Marsh’s Bill Closter, who both played big roles in each of their junior clubs.

Any win by the senior side gets three points, while any win by a reserves side gets one point, with the overall points winner taking home the cup.

It took until the final matches of the day for the Devils to get the win and hold on to the trophy.

The Cobras took out the under-16.5 senior football match 8.13 (61)-6.4 (40), to take the lead by one point with only the under-17 A netball remaining.

Mace Cousins was best on ground for the Cobras in that win.

The Devils weren’t troubled at all in the final game of the day, on their way to a 43-21 win, with Indya Ford named best on court.

It sealed the Devils’ win, 16 points to 14.

The Devils won eight games for the day, with the Cobras winning six matches.

As well as Ford and Cousins, Chloe Gibson, Shae Lewin, Lachlan Bartolo, Sienna Dugan, Archie Lalor, Addison Wright, Jayven Tanner, Casey Richards, Ethan McKercher, Lilli Condon, Spencer Jenks and Audrey Griffiths, were awarded best on ground or court medals for their respective matches.
