There were plenty of celebrations on Sunday as Darley tasted victory for the first time in the AFL Goldfields’ women’s competition.
In their second season, the Devils did what they hadn’t been able to do in their past 18 matches, come away with the four points.
It was a strong performance from start to finish for the Devils against Lake Wendouree, in the 6.8 (44)-4.2 (26) win.
The Devils jumped out of the blocks early with the only two goals of the first quarter and could have been further in front had they kicked straight.
They were able to extend the lead in the next two quarters, holding a 30-point lead at the last break.
While the Devils were held scoreless in the last quarter, they had done enough to get the win and be able to sing the song for the first time.
Joleanda Henare kicked two goals for the Devils, while Tylah Wright and Crystal Layton were named their best.
The win moves Darley to eighth on the ladder.
This week they face fourth placed Gisborne.
In other results, Bacchus Marsh won a low scoring affair against Sebastopol.
Just two goals were scored for the game, but the Cobras had more scoring opportunities, winning 1.5 (11)-1.0 (6).
Kellie McKay, who kicked the Cobras only goal, was named their best.
The Cobras remain in fifth position, percentage behind Gisborne.
Melton had a big win against Carisbrook to keep the pressure on the top sides.

Selina Mawson and Ashlee Wallis kicked two goals each, with Abbey Walker named their best.
The win is the Bloods fifth of the year, already exceeding all their pre-season expectations.
Melton Centrals suffered their second loss of the season, losing to ladder leaders Redan, 7.10 (52)-4.4 (28).
Tiffany Matthewman was named Centrals best. Centrals sit in third spot.
