Darby smashes them in T20

Riddell and Wallan remain on track to defend their Gisborne and District Cricket Association T20 titles.

The two teams which finished on top of their respective divisions after the pool rounds, both had good wins in the semi finals on Tuesday night, to seal not only their grand finals spots, but hosting rights.

In premier division, the Bombers accounted for Rupertswood.

The Bombers, who are going for three straight title, restricted Rupo to 9-97 from their 20 overs.

It was the Matt Darby show for the Bombers in their innings, as he hit seven fours and three sixes on the way to 63 at the top of the order.

The Bombers reached 5-99 with nearly eight overs remaining.

The Bombers will host Romsey in the grand final, after Romsey defeated Woodend.

Woodend made 8-158 from its overs, its lowest score for the side in the T20 tournament.

Romsey skipper Ben Way led the way in the chase scoring 52 not out, as his side made 6-160.

In the district division grand final, Wallan will take on Macedon in the grand final.

The Magpies, which won the Central Highlands’ region’s division 2 T20 title earlier this year, easily accounted for Kyneton.

The Magpies made 9-139 off its overs with Scott O’Donnell top scoring with 42 not out.

Kyneton, which made the finals despite not winning a game, never looked likely and was bowled out for just 61 in 14 overs.

Macedon overcame a slow start against Eynesbury to claim the other grand final berth.

Macedon made 8-123 off its overs after being in trouble at 4-31. Brendon Scott stood strong in the middle order making 42 not out.

Early wickets were the key for Macedon, and they did that, eventually restricting the Eagles to 7-105 off its overs.

Scott completed a good game taking three wickets.

The grand finals of both competitions will be held on Tuesday December 12 from 5.45pm.
