It’s been a brilliant season for Bacchus Marsh cycling star Graeme Frislie.
The sprinter won gold in the under-15 500-metre time trial and keirin events, as well as a silver medal in the sprint event, at last month’s Victorian state track championships.
The results have secured Frislie’s place at the national junior track championships in Tasmania later this month.
Frislie said he was rapt with his results. “It was a great feeling to do so well,” he said. “That places me pretty highly among the results from all the states and gives me some confidence going into nationals.
“Before the nationals I will start focusing on the events I have a chance in, and not go for everything. My main goal for the whole year has been to medal in an individual event.”
Frislie’s outstanding form in the championships continues what has been a brilliant run of results for the young cyclist. The Bacchus Marsh Grammar student was named the 2015 Victorian junior male athlete of the year by Cycling Victoria.
Frislie has no plans to slow down in the coming seasons as he looks to build on his impressive junior results.
He lists a possible spot at the AIS and a place on a professional team among his long-term goals in the sport.
